Crime Stoppers is a partnership of law enforcement, the community and local media. The purpose of Crime Stoppers is to encourage citizens to assist law enforcement to fight crime through anonymous tips. We do this by overcoming the two key elements that inhibit community involvement: fear and apathy.
Fear is overcome by allowing the citizen to always remain anonymous. Apathy is overcome by the fact that tips that lead to an arrest and charges filed are eligible for a cash reward up to $1,000.
Victoria Crime Stoppers provides a telephone hotline (572-4200), Web Tips (web-based tip submission) and the ability to accept text messages to encourage citizens in the community to volunteer information to law enforcement agencies. No matter how a citizen wishes to communicate, they will remain completely anonymous.
This message is shared daily with the citizens due to the kind support of the local media. Without the media's donated air time and print space, Crime Stoppers could not succeed.
